Provo, UT – BYU basketball coach Mark Pope has been busy retooling his roster, and the early returns suggest that the Cougars are poised for a major breakthrough.
Pope’s master plan involves blending a talented core of returning players with a handful of key newcomers, and the results could be devastating for opposing teams.
“We’re thrilled with the additions we’ve made,” Pope said in a statement. “Our returning players have been working hard to improve, and our new recruits bring a level of talent and depth that will help us compete at the highest level.”
The Cougars’ recruiting class is headlined by 4-star guard Tyler Johnson, a dynamic scorer who is expected to make an immediate impact. Joining Johnson are 3-star forward Jake Larson, a physical rebounder, and 3-star center Ethan Davis, a dominant shot-blocker.
BYU’s returning core includes All-Conference guard Spencer Johnson, who averaged 18 points per game last season, and forward Caleb Lohner, a versatile scorer and rebounder.
With their revamped roster, the Cougars are eyeing a conference championship and a deep NCAA Tournament run.
“We’re excited about the potential of this team,” Pope said. “We’ve got the talent, the depth, and the chemistry to make a special season happen.”
The Cougars tip off their season in November, and fans are eagerly anticipating the debut of Pope’s retooled roster.
