Early Life and Education
Keir Starmer was born on September 2, 1962, in Southwark, London. He grew up in Surrey and attended Reigate Grammar School. He studied law at the University of Leeds and later earned a postgraduate degree from the University of Oxford.
Career
Starmer qualified as a barrister in 1987 and worked in private practice before becoming the Director of Public Prosecutions in 2008. He was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath (KCB) in 2014 for his services to law and criminal justice. He was elected as a Member of Parliament for Holborn and St Pancras in 2015.
Political Career
Starmer was elected as the leader of the Labour Party in April 202. He led the party to a landslide victory in the 2024 general election, ending 14 years of Conservative government. He has focused on issues like economic growth, planning system reforms, infrastructure, energy, healthcare, education, childcare, and strengthening workers’ rights.
