In a historic moment for higher education philanthropy, The Ohio State University has received a record-breaking $350 million donation from a distinguished alumnus, marking one of the largest single gifts ever made to a public university in the United States.
The generous contribution, which will be directed toward the construction of state-of-the-art residence halls, reflects a bold vision for enhancing student life and housing infrastructure on campus. University President Dr. Walter “Ted” Carter called the gift “transformational,” noting that it will “impact generations of Buckeyes to come.”
Though the name of the donor has yet to be formally announced, university insiders confirm that the benefactor is a globally recognized business leader and longtime supporter of Buckeye Nation. The gift will fund eco-friendly, modern residential spaces equipped with learning hubs, wellness centers, and community gathering areas designed to foster academic success and personal growth.
“This is more than a donation—it’s a legacy,” said President Carter. “It’s an investment in our students’ futures and in the enduring spirit of Ohio State.”
Construction is expected to begin in early 2026, with the first phase of the new residential community projected to open by fall 2028
