Arsenal have received a significant boost in their quest to sign Joshua Zirkzee, with Serie A clubs reportedly shifting their focus elsewhere amidst growing concerns that the Bologna star favours a summer move to the Emirates Stadium.

Despite Kai Havertz’s impressive goal-scoring form, netting 12 goals and providing six assists in 34 Premier League appearances for the Gunners this season, manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu are actively scouting for a new striker ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Arsenal’s willingness to invest heavily was evident before the season commenced, with Declan Rice’s record-breaking £105 million transfer from West Ham United. However, the club is eager to further reinforce its squad.

While Zirkzee has attracted interest from several clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, sources from Give Me Sport indicate that Serie A suitors are increasingly apprehensive that the striker favours a move to Arsenal over domestic rivals.

Juventus and AC Milan, initially considering bids for the forward, are now exploring alternative options, confident that Zirkzee awaits a Premier League offer.

With Gabriel Jesus sidelined for 16 fixtures due to various injuries this season, Arsenal are keen on bolstering its attacking options. Zirkzee’s impressive performances, including 12 goals this campaign, have caught the Gunners’ attention, positioning him as a prime target.

Arsenal have been closely monitoring the Netherlands under-21 international and are contemplating a move to test Bologna’s resolve. The club views Zirkzee as a promising addition, impressed by his development over the past two seasons.

With Bologna reportedly setting a £51 million price tag for Zirkzee, Arsenal remains undeterred, considering the fee within their budget for a new striker. Despite the substantial valuation, the Gunners are determined to pursue the talented forward.

While Zirkzee’s contract with Bologna extends for two more years, Arsenal’s interest persists. The midfielder’s current salary of over £19,000 per week indicates that Bologna may not feel pressured to sell in the upcoming transfer window.

While the focus remains on securing a new striker for the 2024/25 campaign, Arsenal are also prioritising the addition of a central midfielder to enhance squad depth and competition for places.
