
The Carolina Hurricanes have completed a significant three-team trade to acquire forward Mikko Rantanen from the Colorado Avalanche. In this deal, the Hurricanes also received veteran winger Taylor Hall from the Chicago Blackhawks. To facilitate the trade, the Hurricanes sent centers Martin Nečas and Jack Drury to the Avalanche. The Blackhawks retained 50% of Rantanen’s $9.25 million cap hit and received a third-round pick in return.
Mikko Rantanen, 28, has been a standout performer for the Avalanche, leading the team with 64 points (25 goals and 39 assists) in 49 games this season. He was instrumental in Colorado’s 2022 Stanley Cup victory and has consistently ranked among the NHL’s top scorers.
Taylor Hall, also joining the Hurricanes, brings additional offensive depth. The 33-year-old winger has contributed 40 points (15 goals and 25 assists) in 48 games for the Blackhawks this season.
The Avalanche, in acquiring Martin Nečas and Jack Drury, add promising talent to their roster. Nečas, 26, has recorded 55 points (16 goals and 39 assists) in 49 games this season, while Drury, 24, has 15 points (5 goals and 10 assists) in 40 games.
This trade reflects the Hurricanes’ commitment to strengthening their lineup as they aim for a deep playoff run. The addition of Rantanen and Hall is expected to bolster their offensive capabilities significantly.
