Arsenal broke a remarkable 94-year club record in 5-0 victory over Chelsea

Arsenal delivered a sensational performance to thrash London rivals Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium, to move three points clear at the top of the Premier League.

The Gunners were dominant throughout, aside from occasional Chelsea chances on the counter-attack in the first half, but still went into the break with a surprising 1-0 lead given the opportunities they had to extend it.

However, they were emphatic in the second half, and braces from former Chelsea star Kai Havertz, and right-back Ben White secured a 5-0 win, and it could have even been more as Fabio Vieira and Gabriel Martinelli came close with late shots.

Mikel Arteta’s side had thrashed Chelsea, 10 years on from a 6-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge, and whilst they could not match the same scoreline Arteta suffered as a player, they did break a club record in the win.

Arsenal record biggest-ever victory over Chelsea in dominant win

Arsenal’s 5-0 victory over Chelsea was not only their biggest in Premier League history, but it was the biggest any Arsenal side have ever recorded over the Blues.

This smashes a record set by Arsenal in November 1930, nearly 94 years ago, in which they recorded a 5-1 win away at Chelsea.

Since then, Arsenal recorded a 5-2 win over Chelsea at Highbury in 1979, and their biggest Premier League win came in 2016 with a 3-0 thrashing at the Emirates.

Arsenal did also win 5-3 at Stamford Bridge in 2012, and also won 3-0 on several occasions in the first division.

Arsenal are now unbeaten against Chelsea since August 2021, with four wins and a draw in their last five meetings, and this was the biggest yet.

Arteta’s team recorded a 3-1 win in this fixture last season, but did drop points in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge earlier in this campaign

Arsenal have now lost just one of their last seven clashes with Chelsea, and are also 30 points ahead of them in the Premier League table.

The gap between the two sides has never been bigger, with Mauricio Pochettino now facing further questions, whilst Arteta and his players continue to fight for the Premier League title.
