Arsenal full 20-man squad revealed for Man City with Bukayo Saka wait and Thomas Partey hope

Arsenal news as Mikel Arteta continues to deal with an injury-hit squad ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Manchester City

Arsenal’s highly-anticipated Premier League clash with title rivals Manchester City is finally upon us. The Gunners welcome Pep Guardiola’s men to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Mikel Arteta continues to be dealt a tough hand with the number of injury problems at London Colney. A busy September has seen a number of stars miss out but this weekend’s game could see the return of one player.

Thomas Partey has been sidelined with a groin problem since the end of August. The midfielder missed the last international break but has made good progress in his recovery and is “ahead of schedule” in his return to action.

However, it’s simply a waiting game on Bukayo Saka. The tricky winger has hardly had a chance to rest in the past 24 months and his heavy workload has played its toll in recent weeks.

After missing the Carabao Cup win over Brentford, Saka returned to the starting XI against Bournemouth last weekend, only to be substituted off in the second half. Concerns grew more in midweek when he was forced off in the 2-1 loss to RC Lens in midweek.

“He’s in contention, let’s see how he progresses from here to Sunday,” Arteta said. “He had to leave the pitch, that’s never good news but let’s see how he recovers.”

Whilst supporters cross all their fingers hoping that Saka and Partey are fit enough for the visit of the champions of England, Arsenal will be without Gabriel Martinelli and Jurrien Timber. The recent returns of Declan Rice, Gabriel Jesus and William Saliba has strengthened Arteta’s options.

With the second international break on the horizon, there is no need to rest players. Arguably the biggest game of the season until the Gunners visit the Etihad Stadium in 2024 is here and there’s so much resting on it.
