Barcelona make Arsenal star their number one summer transfer target

Barcelona have reportedly made Arsenal star their No. 1 summer transfer target, with the hope of negotiating a deal for a reasonable fee

In a bid to bolster their squad without breaking the bank, Barcelona have set their sights on Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey as one of their prime targets for the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Ghanaian star, whose contract at the Emirates Stadium expires in 2025, has emerged as a potential acquisition for the Catalan club, according to Adrian Sanchez, a reputable source within the football transfer sphere.

Despite financial constraints looming over the La Liga outfit, Barcelona are keen on securing the services of the 30-year-old midfielder at a reasonable price. The club’s ongoing financial challenges are expected to curtail extravagant spending yet again during the impending transfer period

Arsenal, reportedly open to offloading Partey this summer, had faced interest from Juventus during the previous winter transfer window. The midfielder’s desire to depart the Gunners’ camp had been evident, and Barcelona’s interest now adds another dimension to his potential move.

Partey, who joined Arsenal in 2020, has featured prominently for the Premier League side, making 112 appearances since his arrival. While his contribution played a key role in Arsenal’s Premier League title contention last season, the current campaign has seen the midfielder sidelined with injuries for the most part.

Although Partey’s recent outings against Chelsea and Tottenham suggest a return to form, Arsenal’s new contract offer for Jorginho, coupled with potential midfield signings for the 2024/25 season, could render the Ghanaian surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium.

Partey last month responded to rumours linking him with a move away from Arsenal and stated that he is focused on helping the Gunners.

“My head is always here. This is where I choose to play, I’m really happy every time I’m on the field. I know a lot of speculation has been going on, but for me, I’m really happy to be here and to continue playing for this club.

“With my contract, I still have to the end of the season, I think. I have to do my best and try to perform at the highest level and I think the most important is to be available every time.

While Mikel Arteta stated the importance of Partey to the team expects the midfielder to be fully focused on the team. “He better have his head here because we are playing for big things and that’s what we expect,’ the Arsenal boss said.
“We need him because he’s a top player, a very important player for us and you can see on the pitch as well what kind of impact he can have for us. He’s our player, he’s got one more year’s contract and I’m really happy with him.”
