Exclusive: Player who left Arsenal last summer can be one of ‘world’s best’

Former Arsenal ace Folarin Balogun has the potential to become a world-class striker.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Saul Isaksson-Hurst, a long-standing former Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal coach of 18 years and who now runs his own business coaching Premier League stars, claimed the current Monaco star can “go all the way” to the top.

Balogun, 22, moved to the Ligue 1 giants last summer for a reported £35million following a sensational 22-goal loan spell with Reims in the previous campaign, but he is yet to replicate that form this season.

His return this year, eight goals and five assists in 25 outings in all competitions, has been relatively underwhelming, but he is still a key man for Adi Hutter’s side.

Isaksson-Hurst, who has worked individually with Balogun as a coach since 2022, admitted that Monaco’s style of play is not what the USMNT star is used to, but he is one of the “best” young finishers in the world.

“It’s difficult to say [Balogun’s ceiling is],” he told the Inside Track podcast.

“He had a really good season at Reims but this season has been more challenging.

“Monaco play with two up top and he’s asked to do different things – they don’t build the whole team around him.

“But that’s league football.

“He’s doing really well with America as well, so he’s got a good platform in international football.

“In terms of shooting, finishing and being an in-the-box striker, he’s one of the best around as a young prospect.

“It’s such a fine line, but he has the potential to go all the way.”
