Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal could repeat Martin Odegaard trick to sign explosive midfielder

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arsenal midfield target will only be available on loan this summer

Arsenal summer transfer plans are gaining momentum as Mikel Arteta aims to reinforce his squad following their impressive performance this season at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners, currently in the Premier League title race, are firmly positioning themselves to be in contention for a third season running in the Premier League and Champions League.

While Arsenal’s foundation appears robust, there’s a recognised need for further strengthening, particularly in midfield, a focus area for Edu and Arteta. Fabrizio Romano has provided updates on a reported Arsenal target, Xavi Simons, who has been hailed as the heir to Kevin De Bruyne.

Simons, just 21 years old, boasts an impressive resume, having emerged from Barcelona’s esteemed La Masia academy before joining Paris Saint-Germain in 2019. His professional debut for PSG came in February 2021, leading to a Ligue 1 title and Coupe de France triumph in his debut season. Following a successful stint with PSV Eindhoven, where he clinched multiple honors, Simons returned to PSG and is currently on loan at RB Leipzig.

Arsenal - Xavi Simons

According to Romano, PSG are inclined towards a loan move for Simons next season, with a permanent transfer unlikely at this stage. Arsenal, along with other Premier League clubs, are reportedly interested in securing the talented midfielder’s services.

Romano posted on X: “Xavi Simons and PSG will decide future before the Euros — but PSG don’t want to sell Xavi this summer. Also, RB Leipzig can’t afford permanent move. Loan move, most likely option – Barça are pushing, Leipzig and PL clubs keen. Xavi will have a say in the loan decision.”

He added: “The most realistic and concrete option for Xavi Simons remains new loan for next season, as mentioned today. The final decision will be made in new meeting very soon but sale is being ruled out at this stage.”

Simons’ potential has drawn attention from rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, with Manchester City also expressing interest in the Dutchman as De Bruyne’s possible successor

With 42 appearances, nine goals, and 15 assists for RB Leipzig this season, Simons’ impact has been significant. His versatility and potential make him an enticing prospect for Arsenal, who could explore an initial loan deal, similar to their approach with Martin Odegaard, before considering a permanent move in the future.
