How Man City can remove Arsenal Premier League title advantage vs Tottenham

The latest Arsenal news as Man City play their crucial game in hand against Tottenham in North London on Tuesday night ahead of the weekend’s final games of the season.

Leandro Trossard celebrates after scoring a goal to make it 0-1 during the Premier League match between Manchester United and Arsenal FC at Old Trafford.

The Premier League title race is going down to the final day, as Arsenal climbed back above Manchester City in the table on Sunday afternoon.

In the penultimate weekend of the season, Man City’s 4-0 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage in Saturday’s early kick-off, took them above Arsenal. But that lead in the table lasted for just over 24 hours.

Arsenal were in action on Sunday as they travelled to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United in what was arguably their toughest test remaining of the season. Leandro Trossard’s 20th-minute goal proved to be the difference between the sides as the Gunners saw out a 1-0 win, prompting celebrations with the away crowd in the thunder and lightening.

The result means that Arsenal are now back to the top of the table, one point above Man City. They also have a better goal difference than their title rivals which could prove to be vital come the end of the season.

The title race now comes down to three games. The big advantage Man City have is that two of the games are theirs with an opportunity to pick up six points, while Arsenal have one game and three points up for grabs.

Pep Guardiola’s side travel to take on Arsenal’s North London rivals Tottenham on Tuesday night. It’ll be a rare occasion where Gunners fans will be hoping for a Spurs win.

At one point just a few weeks ago there was a big difference in the goal difference between the two teams. However, the gap has now been cut to just three goals with Arsenal on +61 and Man City on +58.

Therefore, a win by three goals would see City wipe out that advantage and draw level on goal difference. If they win by more than three, then the advantage swings to Guardiola’s team ahead of the final day.

Goal difference could prove to be vital on the final day. If Man City beat Spurs, then they would start the final day two points ahead of Arsenal. In that situation, a Man City draw and an Arsenal win in the last games would see the title come down to goal difference, placing more emphasis on not only the result but also the scoreline at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday night.
