Real Madrid complete the signing of 17-year-old goalkeeping prodigy

Real Madrid may currently boast of two in-form goalkeepers in Andriy Lunin and Kepa Arrizabalaga. However, neither player convinces the board as a long-term replacement for Thibaut Courtois.

The lack of a sure-shot in-house solution brought Los Blancos onto the market where they have scouted players from across the world.

The new Ukrainian

According to reports from AS, their hunt has finally borne fruit. Los Blancos have completed the signing of Illia Voloshyn, the 17-year-old Ukrainian starlet who is considered one of the world’s brightest shot-stopping talents.

They reached an agreement with Rayo Majadahonda to incorporate the star until 2026 and all formalities have been completed.

Lunin is one of Ukraine’s best goalkeepers and has established himself as a strong competitor to Kepa this season. Real Madrid’s new youth signing, incidentally, happens to be his compatriot.

Illia Voloshyn will travel to Madrid on Wednesday to sign his contract and officially be unveiled as a new Real Madrid player. Needless to say, he is expected to play with the Castilla first before making the move to the first team.

A long-term solution?

Voloshyn stands out for his ability in the air, fast reflexes and comfortable distribution. He is considered the complete package, although he does still have a lot to grow given his age.

He will be one of the team’s best prospects to take over from Courtois in the years to come, considering that the Belgian is already 31 years old.
