Mikel Arteta is ready to make early Pedro Neto to Arsenal transfer decision

Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto

Very few Premier League clubs have the luxury of making big decisions on their summer transfer window spending before the current season has concluded.

Manchester City have managed to offload fringe midfielder Tommy Doyle to Wolverhampton Wanderers this week but that is usually the scale of the business that can be done in May as the title run-in accelerates. However, due to an untimely injury, Arsenal can now make a decision on one of their proposed transfer targets – Pedro Neto.

The Wolves star’s unfortunate hamstring injury has kept him on the sidelines since March and it has now been confirmed that the 24-year-old has likely played his last minutes of the season. If that is the case, it is now time for Mikel Arteta to make his mind up on what he wants to do about pursuing the winger in the summer.

Neto has nothing left to show this season unfortunately so all the evidence has been gathered as to whether or not he would strengthen Arsenal’s squad. With 11 assists in 23 appearances this campaign, the Gunners have rightly had their head turned.

However, his injury record could prevent Arteta from spending big money on the Portuguese star. Since the 2020/21 season, Neto has had four major injuries which have kept him sidelined for considerable periods.

This season alone he has suffered two hamstring injuries which have forced his momentum to be halted. What does play in his favour, though, is how he has managed to keep his performance levels high despite the impact of those injuries.

Whichever way Arteta sees it, he can now make a positive decision which will help him in the transfer window. If Neto is the guy to go for, Edu can start drafting up an offer.

If not, then the Gunners can simply move on to other targets for the summer instead
