City started their 2024/25 Championship campaign with the defat at Kassam Stadium and Hoff Thorup said he wasn’t satisfied with various elements of the performance.
“We should have done better in the moments of the game where things were open,” he said.
“I think there was space enough for us to be able to play. I’m not satisfied with the way we took care of the ball, we gave it away too easy. I think we played too hectic, especially the beginning of the game.
“There were defensive moments as well where we don’t look solid enough. Overall, not a good enough performance.”
The Dane also talked about the direction he wants to move the style of play, and outlined that more work needs to be done.
“It’s important for us not to invite the opposition into the game with too much second ball duels and so on. We need to get it on the ground as quick as possible and start playing,” he explained.
“If we’re not good enough at that, then we need to develop and improve because that’s how we want to play moving forward. I think a lot of games can be dictated if you’re good enough on the ball and that’s where we have to go.
“We tried to see if we could put some pressure on them with two strikers at the end and some offensive-minded wing-backs to see if we could do something a little bit different, open up the game a little bit more.
“I don’t think we really succeeded with that because again it comes back to how much control you have in the game. It was a little too back and forth.”
City’s next fixture sees them welcome League One Stevenage to Carrow Road for the first round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday, August 13.
