Two important Arsenal players are doubts for trip to Old Trafford

Mikel Arteta has revealed that two important Arsenal players will undergo late fitness tests ahead of the Manchester United clash

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed that Bukayo Saka and Takehiro Tomiyasu will undergo assessments ahead of Arsenal’s crucial match against Manchester United on Sunday, as the Gunners aim to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Heading into the weekend with a slim one-point advantage over Manchester City, Arteta faces uncertainties over the availability of key players Saka and Tomiyasu.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference, Arteta expressed doubts over Saka’s fitness and confirmed that both players will be assessed the day before the game, stating, “We will have to wait and see.”

The trip to Old Trafford poses a formidable challenge for Arsenal, who have struggled historically at the venue. With just one win in their last 16 matches at Old Trafford, Arsenal face an uphill battle against Manchester United.

Despite the daunting task, Arteta remains focused on the task at hand, emphasising the need for a high-level performance to secure victory. ““Every game has a different context. We know our history [at Old Trafford] how we have done over there, so we are going to have to be at our best to win the game. We know what we need to do, but first we have to perform at a high level to deserve to win the match. That is where the focus is,” Arteta remarked.

Reflecting on the title race, Arteta emphasised the importance of maintaining focus and believing in their ability to overcome their opponents. “It leaves us in a very clear situation. We have to focus and do what have to do to be in the best possible situation. That’s what we are doing. We have to think that it is going to work and we can be better than our opponent and beat them. The final outcome might be something else, but that is not in our control,” Arteta stated, acknowledging the uncertainties of the final outcome but emphasising Arsenal’s determination to control what is within their power.
