Arsenal fans have appealed for Erling Haaland’s safe return after he was ‘pocketed’ by William Saliba.

The Manchester City goal machine was kept eerily quiet by Saliba and centre-back partner Gabriel Magalhaes during the dour goalless draw between the title rivals. In doing so they became the first defensive duo to restrict Haaland to no shots on targets both home and away in a Premier League season.

The Gunners won the reserve fixture 1-0 while Haaland was also well shacked during the Community Shield, which Arsenal won on penalties back in August. Saliba was named man of the match by Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville and few would disagree with the former Manchester United defende

Saliba’s towering performance left Arsenal fans cheekily checking on Haaland’s whereabouts after the game. One quipped: “BREAKING: The police stopped Saliba on his way back to London. When they searched his pockets they found… Haaland. This is not the first time. Saliba said he thought he had returned him to his rightful owners and didn’t realise he was still in his pocket.”

Another joked: “Anyone seen Haaland? Still in Saliba’s pocket.” A confident third said: “2 wins and one draw against City this season. Hope we get you in the CL semi. Saliba got Haaland in his pocket

A fourth jibed: “Can someone check Saliba’s pocket please, I’m afraid Haaland still in it.” Another laughed: “I don’t know in whose pocket Haaland is in between Gabriel and Saliba but he’s not getting out anytime soon. He has been there from the start of the season lol.”

A sixth hailed: “That’s the third time this season that William Saliba and Gabriel have completely shut down Erling Haaland. Enormous performance, again, by the two #AFC centre-backs.”
