Last weekend, when Real Madrid faced Almeria in La Liga at the Santiago Bernabeu, star midfielder Jude Bellingham was seen having a go at the referee, Hernandez Maeso, at half-time.

The 20-year-old superstar was unhappy with the match official for he was at the receiving end of constant fouls by Almeria players but the referee was not stopping play or awarding free-kicks.

Bellingham the second-most fouled player in Europe

Now, MARCA has come out with a report that sheds light on Bellingham’s situation and somewhat justifies his complaints with the referee.

As per the report, the Real Madrid rising star is the player who has been fouled the second-highest number of times in all of Europe’s top five leagues.

Indeed, Bellingham has suffered a total of 72 fouls this season, only behind Mattia Zaccagna of Lazio, who has been fouled on 75 occasions by opposition players.

Real Madrid concerned

The report further goes on to state that Real Madrid are a little concerned about the situation and are not entirely pleased with the lack of protection towards Bellingham from match officials.

Not only is the Englishman the Merengues’ top scorer this season, he is also leading the goalscoring charts in La Liga and, in general, has been one of the best players in the competition, helping raise the level of the league.

Bellingham will miss this weekend’s La Liga clash against Las Palmas through suspension having picked up five yellow cards – most of which have come due to protests against referees for not giving fouls after rough challenges on him.
