In an era where elite college football players often jump at the first opportunity to declare for the NFL Draft, Boise State wide receiver Ryan Williams has chosen a different path. Despite receiving interest from professional scouts and having the talent to make the leap, Williams has decided to stay in college and chase a championship with the Broncos.
Williams, a highly touted playmaker, had been considered a potential early-round NFL prospect, with analysts raving about his elite speed, precise route-running, and strong hands. However, instead of entering the draft, he shocked many by announcing his return to Boise State for another season.
“I know I could’ve taken that next step, but I feel like we have unfinished business here,” Williams said. “I want to bring a championship to Boise, and I believe in this team and this coaching staff.”
Boise State has long been a powerhouse in the Mountain West Conference, but Williams wants to help the program take the next step nationally. With his return, the Broncos are expected to compete for a New Year’s Six bowl berth and possibly make a push for the expanded College Football Playoff.
“Coach Avalos and this team are building something special,” Williams continued. “I want to be a part of that journey and make history with my brothers.”
While some might see his decision as a risk, Williams’ return to college could actually boost his draft stock. Another dominant season would allow him to further refine his skills, strengthen his case as a first-round prospect, and potentially enter the league with even greater leverage.
For now, Williams is focused on one thing—winning. If all goes according to plan, both he and Boise State could be in for a historic season that proves the wait was, indeed, worth it.
